Lindsey P. VickersBorn: 22 Mar 1818 in White County (Now Putnam County) Tennessee Died: 22 Feb 1864 in the Battle of Dug Hill in Putnam/White Counties, Tennessee No photos available Company I, 5th Tennessee Cavalry 24 Nov 1862-22 Feb 1864 Lindsey is the son of Hardin Elijah Vickers and Nancy Ann Morrow. He married Elizabeth Richardson daughter of Caleb Richardson and Martha "Patsy" Medlin. They had seven children between 1843 and 1863. Lindsey's service record shows that he was admitted to the military hospital in March 1863. After discharge from the hospital, he was captured near Dixon Springs, near Carthage, in Smith County, Tennessee on 10 Jun 1863. He was confined in Richmond, Virginia from 24 June to 6 July 1863. He was paroled at City Point, Virginia on 8 July 1863. He was reported at Camp Parole, Maryland on 9 July 1863. He was next reported at Camp Chase, Ohio (USA) in September 1863. He returned to the unit from Camp Chase on 5 Nov 1863. Next, he was with the unit on patrol out of Sparta in Feb 1864 when he was killed in the Battle of Dug Hill. He was one of, at least, three Mine Lick Creek men killed in that battle. Lindsey's widow was able to draw a widow's pension and an orphan's pension for two of her children. A third child, John H. Lindsey, filed his orphan's pension separate from his mother. Don't know why that was or what the outcome. I'm sure there is a story there. Lindsey is buried in the Vickers Cemetery on his old homeplace following Miller's Trace off of Mine Lick Creek outside of Baxter, Tennessee. |
