News From Ada (Oklahoma)

Nita (Lancaster) Bryan is the great great granddaughter of William Browder Lee and Marinda "Mandy" Roberts (daughter of Joseph Roberts).  She lives in Oklahoma and has been leading the way in ensuring William Browder Lee has a marker in the cemetery where he is buried.

As a new Mormon, William Browder Lee left Tennessee sometime after 1888 and moved to Ogden, Weber County, Utah and later to Ada, Pontotoc County, Indian Territory.  Oklahoma became a state in 1907 and he died on 14 February 1909.  The Hird Cemetery he was buried in is on North Country Club Road in Ada, Oklahoma.  William Browder Lee probably stopped in Ada and visited with or lived with his grandson's families (Haggi and Enos, sons of Harmon Young Lee).  His wife Mandy did not convert to LDS and never left Tennessee and is buried in the Richard Lee Family Cemetery in Boma, Tennessee. 

Nita has worked to get permission to access this land where William Browder Lee and other early pioneers and native Americans are buried.  She has been working with the Oklahoma Historical Society and the Chickasaw Nation to ensure she does everything legally.  The sign in the picture below is this week's progress.  Once her package is approved, she will be able to put a marker down for William.  We are grateful for the work she is doing to honor one of our relatives!
