Jordan Briant/Bryant

Jordan was the son of James Briant/Bryant and Jane Gentry.  He married Elizabeth R. "Betsy" Allison.  During the 1800s period of time, the surname was almost always spelled Briant.  In most cases, descendants of our generation have changed the spelling to Bryant.  They had five children between 1854 and 1862.

Jordan saw no action in the Civil War.  He enlisted on 6 Dec 1862.  For some reason, this was 12 days after his relatives and other neighbors on Mine Lick Creek.  We assume they left Mine Lick Creek as a group for safety, but who knows.  Several who joined between 24 Nov and 6 Dec were mustered into Company I, of the 5th Tennessee Cavalry.  Almost immediately (28 Dec) after being mustered in, he was admitted to the hospital and died.  Cause of death unknown for sure, possibly mumps.

This left Jordan's widow, Betsy, with five minor children.  Two of those died at ages 4 and 17.  The other three made it to adulthood, married and had children.  

Jordan is buried in the Nashville National Cemetery in Madison, Davidson County, Tennessee.  He is in Section E, Site 369.
