2023 Roberts Reunion Recap

All,

It was so great to see everyone at this year's reunion!  Including both Friday and Saturday activities, we had over 100 in attendance and several who were first ever attendees to the reunion...which is always great to have.

Here some highlights:

Numerous Violet Roberts' descendants joined us on Friday for the "Meet Violet Roberts" lecture as part of our continuing heritage series.  Thank you to Rachel Dixon (Francis Marion Roberts' descendant) who taped the lecture.

Tommy Roberts continues to make progress on the question of "Who is Joseph Roberts' daddy?"  His DNA lecture helped everyone understand where we currently are on that question.

Friday night's taco stew and music was enjoyed by all.  It was so enjoyable to hear the "Wallace Trio" (Dennis, Linda and Karin Wallace) sing and Cowboy Bill from Florida capped off the evening with some great country and western music!

Saturday morning kicked off with the Joseph Roberts Cemetery decoration.  Several went down to the cemetery to hear about Joseph and those buried there.

Noon potluck started off with a group photo.  Thanks to Phil Loftis (Francis Marion Roberts descendant) for taking pictures again this year!  All the photos are posted on the website for you to enjoy.

Besides the delicious food, we had our cornhole tournament.  The winners were Marci Roberts and son Ryan Roberts.  The runners up (and 2022 champions) were Jay and son Clay Harry.  The Harry family spiced things up with making special cornhole t-shirts:-)

The Heritage Quilt was finished and will be hung in the Heritage House for all to enjoy!  Vicki Swank, Darla Gallentine and Gracie Roberts won the drawing for a quilting knife donated by an anonymous donor.  Thanks to Karen Watts (Francis Marion Roberts' descendant) for having the idea for this special quilt!  We had over 50 people put stitches into this quilt and squares designed by different family members.

This year's attendance award winners:

- Oldest:  Doris Beattie is 91 years old.  She married William (Windfield) Beattie (Violet (Roberts) Lee descendant).
- Youngest:  Pardi Alexander Sauceman is 18 months old (Francis Marion Roberts' descendant)
- Farthest traveled:  Jay, Brenda, Clay and Barbara Harry from Houston, Texas; (Francis Marion Roberts' descendant).

Please mark your calendars Roberts Reunion for Saturday, 1 June 2024!  It will be a one day event!  Watch the website for the schedule.
